Vanderbilt Cup Races

A current Ebay auction provides an opportunity to purchase one of the most treasured pieces of Vanderbilia- a Long Island Motor Parkway license plate.

The 1931 red and white plate #76 appears to be in mint condition and had not been previously listed in the Motor Parkway License Plate Census.

The auction for item # 380386821822 will end on Friday at 1:36 PM EST.

The current high bid of $526 (7 bidders) is below the reserve price. I predict the final bid will be placed in the last 10 seconds of the auction and will exceed $1,500.

November 25, 2011 Update: The winning bid was $2,551, a record for a Motor Parkway plate sold on Ebay. A total of 14 bids were offered with three bids over $2,367.

Adding the above 1931 #76, there are now 79 known surviving plates, just over 1% of the total plates that were produced. From 1912 to 1937, an estimated 7,400 Long Island Motor Parkway license plates were manufactured including; 6,700 regular plates and 700 golf club plates.
