Carl Fisher’s Stoddard Dayton- The First Pace Car


In celebration of Sunday's 100th Anniversary of the Inaugural Indy 500 Race, posts during this week will feature information on this historic race:



 



 

This Stoddard Dayton was the pace car for the first Indy 500 Race in 1911, as well as the 1913 and 1914 races. It was driven at these races by Carl Fisher, one of the original founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.


As seen in this film, the Stoddard Dayton led the parade lap and paced the race from the pole position:
