Film “The Black Beast in the Finale of “Men Who Built America”

Sunday's finale of the History Channel's "Men Who Built America" featured  a re-enactment of the 1901 "Race That Changed the World" with the dashing Henry Ford (played in the race by Ed LaBounty in his 1913 White) and the very handsome Alexander Winton (played by me in the 1909 Alco Black Beast). The race was filmed in July 2012 on the fields and back roads of the Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

The very exciting race sequence (with Ed and I driving) lasts 1 minute and 10 seconds and begins at the 2:58 mark of this brief five-minute film.

A DVD of the mini-series will be available in January.

Enjoy,

From John Dow (actor who played John D. Rockefeller, Sr.)

Hi Howard,

I’ve been meaning to drop you a note to tell you how much I enjoyed watching your segment of Men Who Built America. It was especially fun after having been there to watch the filming. I think we can all be very proud to have played a part in the project & I got a real kick out of the fact that both your and my segments were in the same episode.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and best wishes for a ever more rewarding movie career.

Take care,  John Dow (JD Rockefeller, Sr)

Thanks John! It was a pleasure meeting you on the set. You did a great job as John D. Rockefeller. You can be seen in the first 30 seconds of the above clip.

Happy Holidays!

From Kathy C:

“Watching you ( the fastest man in America ) be beaten by Henry Ford on the History Channel! What great fun! I know you use it in your talks but so cool to see it on the tube….You bring history alive & help all of us in the field by making history breathe & relevant… you give so many connections. My goal is linking history on many levels… You & the BB create wild links: socially politically economically culturally in an incredibly crafted machine & the roadways & races it traveled… what fantastic &  powerful links to offer in the study of history to reach wildly diverse interests!  “
