Historical Marker to Be Installed at the Merrick Avenue Motor Parkway Bridge Site in East Meadow

As part of the pilot program for the Motor Parkway Trail, Nassau County Department of Public Works is planning to install a historical marker on the site of the Merrick Avenue Motor Parkway bridge in East Meadow.

Enjoy,

As indicated by this sign, the Meadow Brook Lodge was located on the west side of Merrick Avenue in Westbury.

LONG ISLAND MOTOR PARKWAY

On this site was the first parkway built exclusively for automobiles (1908-1938). This section of the parkway was also used for the historic Vanderbilt Cup Races from 1908 to 1910.

Nassau County

Nassau County will be utiliing VanderbiltCupRaces.com and Frank Femenias's Motor Parkway mapping to determine the location of the marker.

My IPad marks the suggested spot for the marker.

Congratulations on the historical marker! I’m sure you and Al worked hard to acknowledge the motor parkway!
