MASCD&CS Meeting: “Santa Claus is Arriving in a Mustang Boss 302” on Tuesday, December 13, 2011

The December  Meeting of the Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving & Chowder Society will feature a special speaker: Edsel B. Ford II, member of the Board of Directors, Ford Motor Company. The meeting will bebegin at 12 Noon sharp on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Sardi's, 234 W. 44th Street. Details from Bruce Wennerstrom:

.

It's the 110th Anniversary of Ford in racing, and Edsel Ford II will tell how it all started with this great-grandfather, Henry Ford's victory in his first and only race in 1901, the Winton Sweepstakes Race.

The victory, thanks to car he named "Sweepstakes", was a key event in building the confidence of investors, and lined up support he needed to form Ford Motor Company 20 months later in June, 1903. The hisoric car is part of the Racing in America collection at the Henry Frod Museum. But the trophy that Henry won went missing, inadvertently sold in 1951, and Edsel will tell us  of current efforts to locate it, and how gearheads can possibly help. Edsel will also share the rich history of  Ford in racing, and how competition helps improve the breed (and sales).

Wait, There's More: There will be a hot new Boss 302 Mustang parked in front of Sardi's. Ande, for last-minute shoppers, MASCDCS-member Phillipe Defechereux, will be signing and selling copies of his latest book, Watkins Glen- 1948-1952.

Enjoy,

Howard Kroplick
