BAY SHORE - Marty Himes bought a 1956 Ford Victoria more than 50 years ago and turned it into a race car to run at Freeport Speedway.
For him, it's part of a lifelong passion for race cars that helps keep Long Island history alive.
News 12 Long Island took a look inside Himes' unique car collection that dates back decades. He says real race cars have numbers and decals from sponsors.
Most importantly, he says, they have dents and scratches. He calls them "speed marks," and says each one has its own story.
Himes says he has one "speed mark" caused by Baiting Hollow race car driver Charlie Jarzombek.
