Update: November 14, 2009: John Walter Christie: Front-Wheel Drive Pioneer

The Automobile Pioneers section of the December 2010 issue of Hemmings Classic Car profiled Walter Christie:

Walter Christie laid claim to a litany of distinctions and accomplishments that rolled out like a long carpet at a Broadway premiere....Even today, more than 100 years after the first Christie motorcar appeared, it still looks radical.

Classic Car Club of America in the News

The Long Island Sound Region of CCCA's very own Walt Gosden was profiled in the January 2010 issue of Hemmings Classic Car. The article: Walter E. Gosden: The Classic Car Club of America's beloved coachwork historian notes:

The Classic car world is a better place because Walter E. Gosden once chose old cars over Beatles records. Now a respected historian and coachwork specialist for the Classic Car Club of America, this understated New Yorker has been a lifelong automobile enthusiast. Walt, as he's called, has educated and entertained CCCA members with his writings and, through his research, has illuminated the fascinating history of luxury automobiles built between World Wars I and II.

Alco Black Beast in the News

The Black Beast received a shout-out in the article Sand Special: Riding Ralph Hamlin's 1911 Franklin Special desert racer in the December 2011 issue of Hemmings Classic Car:

There are few survivors from the Gilded Age of racing, and each one stands apart from all other period cars, no matter what they are. The Marmon Wasp, Great Race Thomas Flyer, "Old 16" Locomobile, Alco Black Beast, Corbin Cannonball, Packard Grey Wolf: each is inseparable from the stories of the men who drove them and the almost inconceivable risks and trials they endured.

Outnumbered in the Oughts and early Teens by European competitors, they were the sharp end of the American auto industry, competing with established makes like Mercedes, Fiat, Delage and Peugeot in order to prove we could take on the best from Europe, and win.
