The 1914 Menu from Petit Trianon on the Motor Parkway in Lake Ronkonkoma, L.I.
When the Long Island Motor Parkway route was completed to Lake Ronkonkoma in 1911, officials decided to build a first-class dining facility and half-way stop for travelers. The 1914 menu provided a wide selection of food as expected by the high-clientele of the inn.

The menu was printed on September 24, 1914 when the inn was managed by the Hotel Astor of New York City.

The inflation factor since 1914 is 22. Accordingly, the $1 filet mignon in 1914 would cost $22 today.
Note on the bottom of the meu reads: "Chauffeurs of our Patrons are served a la carte AT COST PRICE in a Special Dining Room.

I grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma and never knew about this place!

I was born and raised in Lake Ronkonkoma about a mile from this mansion/restaurant and my father worked for some time in the 30s as a toll collector at the end of the road. The Petit Trianon was fashioned after the original palatial home in France.
As a son of the former historian of Brookhaven Town, Suffolk County, N.Y., I offer the this map. After the Petit Trianon went into disuse we used to play in the ruins and use it as our “fort” back in the late 40s and early 50s until it was razed.
