The Photo Artistry of Hemmings’ Richard Lentinello: 1937 Chrysler’s Chrysler

The spectacular photos for Hemmings' cover story on Chrysler's Chrysler were taken by editor Richard Lentinello. Richard has provided additional photos from the photo shoot taken at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the former Kings Point home of Walter P. and Della Chrysler.

All photographs are courtesy of Richard Lentinello of Hemmings Classic Car magazine.

Enjoy,

Forker House/Wylie Hall, Kings Point, NY

"A regal car photographed in regal surroundings, at Walter P. Chrysler's mansion on Long Island Sound in Kings Point, New York."

The proud owner.

Automotive historian Walt Gosden and Howard Kroplick. Walt wrote the second article"Streamline Moderne: The design and construction of Walter P. Chrysler's 1937 Custom Imperial town car." in the September 2015 Hemmings Classic Car issue.

Exterior

"Matching rake of chauffeur and passenger windshields is an elgant touch by LeBaron styling staff. In fou weather, a roof insert covers the chauffeur's compartment."

The license plate light matches the front grille.

Dashboard

"The tastefully trimmed interior gives no hint as to the complexity of this restoration. The body's ash framing had to be replaced."

"Yes, the clock on the dashboard not only works, but keepstime reliably. Note the sunburst pattern on the speedometer."

"Round knobs are radio controls. Pushbuttons raise and lowerthe town car's glass divider."

Rear Interior

"This was the very epitome of automotive luxury in the late 1930s...The blanked-in C pillars and miniscule rear windows create a cocoon-like effect for the fortunate occupants."

"The handmade wooden vanity contains a bar and section fpr toiletries, mounted ahead of the jump seats."

"Yes, this clock also works."

Engine

"When the town car was first acquired, the Chrysler straight-eight had never been out of the frame."

"Despite not having been run in about a quarter century, it immediately fired with the first turn of the key."

"Transmission has an automatic overdrive setup."

It is hard to think that something as cool as this was allowed to degrade till you rescued it. Bravo !
