Great Neck and Lake Success’ Role in the Vanderbilt Cup Races & the Motor Parkway


The Great Neck Historical Society will be hosting a presentation tonight "Great Neck and Lake Success- Their Role in the Vanderbilt Cup Races and the Long Island Motor Parkway" at 7:30 PM in the Community Room at the Great Neck Library.


Al Velocci and I will be the presenters focusing on the 1905 and 1906 races and the Motor Parkway which went through this section of Nassau County, the Great Neck Lodge (see above photo taken in 1911), the Motor Parkway Bridge over Lakeville Road and William K. Vanderbilt Jr's Lake Success Deepdale estate.


Following the presentation, Al and I will be signing our books; The Long Island Motor Parkway, The Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island, and The Toll Lodges of the Long Island Motor Parkway, and Their Gatekeepers' Lives.
