Tucker Dealerships on Long Island in 1948 Updated: 2/20/17
The Tucker Car Corporation had agreements with over 2,000 dealerships in 1948 throughout the United States. Lou Commisso and Gary Hammond have forwarded this information on the Tucker dealerships on Long Island.

In May 6, 1948, The County Review (Riverhead) reported that the Hargis family had purchased property in Riverhead for the 'new Tucker automobile". Haargis built a new building for the dealership.

"The Tucker has dozens of exciting engineering features, any one of which would be a major change in a normal year...features completely new, yet completely proved in fifteen years of rigid tests."
The October 7, 1948 issue of The County Review reported that "between 5,000 and 8,000 persons inspected the new Tucker automobile at the fine new building of the Hargis Motor Sales."

Update: 2/20/2017: Gary Hammond reports: In answer to Ken Wiebke's comment on the Stickler - Eilertsen engagement announcement I did a little more digging and based on the attached March 21, 1950 Newsday article it never happened! She instead married someone else in March 1950.
Gary Hammond: Interesting how when Tucker didn't work out, he became a Hudson Dealer, then to the trailer park!

I grew up in West Hempstead. I remember, on Fulton Ave. in Hempstead, there was a building that was supposed to be a Tucker dealership. The Tucker sign was already mounted on the building’s facade. To my knowledge, they never obtained a Tucker automobile. I believe the sign was a neon sign, but I’m not sure.
I wish I could give you more info, but that’s as far as my memory goes.

I can’t help but wonder how the Stickler/Eilerstsen marriage worked out. She being solidly grounded with Colgate and he coming back from the South Pacific perhaps chasing a dream for Marjorie and him with Tucker.
