Hit One Over the Motor Parkway Bridge in Fresh Meadows!

Contributor Mitch Kaften has provided another view of the first Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge - located near the Western Terminus at Nassau Boulevard (now Horace Harding Expressway).

Mitch's father Douglas I. Kaften captured the action of this Fresh Meadows Little League game in 1955. Behind the left fielder was the remnants of the bridge which carried the Motor Parkway over the an abandoned section of the North Hempstead Turnpike. The bridge was taken down by New York City in the mid-1955s -a correction from the date given in our almost flawless book The Long Island Motor Parkway.
