Velocity Takes Viewers on a Road Trip Through American History With the All-New Series AMERICARNA

(Silver Spring, Md.) --Racing Icon Ray Evernham Leads Viewers Epic Ride Through American Culture in the Series Premiere of AMERICARNA, Tuesday January 28th on Velocity –

-- Ron Howard, Surf Legend and Innovator Laird Hamilton, Beach Boy Mike Love, Country Idol Brad Paisley among Guests Sharing the Impact Iconic Automobiles Had on their Lives --

This January Velocity takes viewers on a tour through American culture through the lens of one its greatest inventions: the automobile. Three-time NASCAR champion Ray Evernhamhosts this cross-country trek, chasing down the cars that had a profound impact on shaping our national identity. From the inception of American racing at the turn of 20th century, to the Woody wagons that defined California culture in the 50’s and 60’s, to the infamous drag strips of the 70’s, automotive history has left an indelible imprint on the American experience. AMERICARNA lifts the hood on legendary four-wheeled treasures that continue to have a profound influence on our cultural DNA. AMERICARNA debuts Tuesday January 28 with a special double episode premiere at 8:00 and 8:30.

“The automobile is a quintessential part of the American experience - they’re synonymous with freedom, adventure,” said Bob Scanlon, General Manager of Velocity. “Since the first Model T rolled off Henry Ford’s assembly line, cars have continually helped evolve our culture, and we’re honored to have a true godfather of American car culture, Ray Evernham, host AMERICARNA.   The stories and characters featured are even more unforgettable than they cars themselves.”

“Over my career, I have visited every corner of the country and learned firsthand about America’s rich, diverse love affair with automobiles,” said Evernham. “Cars hold the key to many of America’s historical secrets, and I am proud to share my journey through barns, along coastlines, and inside racetracks and garages with viewers on Velocity this January.”

The premiere episode brings Ray together with a surfing legend and revolutionary waterman, Laird Hamilton. The focus of the episode is the iconic Woody Wagon – a staple in the beach community - popularized by in the 50’s and adopted by surfers nationwide as a fitting chariot to transport their gear. Additional episodes feature historical automotive insight from famed director Ron Howard (Arrested Development, The DaVinci Code, Apollo 13) , music legend Mike Love (The Beach Boys), Country superstar Brad Paisley, And Hot Rod racing guru Don Prudholme.

Very impressive segment.  (I hope I can get Americarna out here on the Left Coast, on Direct TV).  I was unaware that Walter Chrysler actually worked for Alco when they were manufacturing cars, and that’s what led him to go into the automobile manufacturing business. . . . .very interesting.

DVR alert - my friend Howard Kroplick and his amazing ALCO racer will be featured on the next episode of “Americarna” on Velocity. If you don’t already know Howard’s car is a 1908 machine that won the 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup races ( VanderbiltCupRaces.com) and competed in the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. This car has racked up numerous concours awards and was driven by Emerson Fittipaldi during pre-race ceremonies for the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500 as well as by Howard during the 2012 IMS Legends Day event.

Mar 02 2014 Howard Kroplick 9:56 PM

Steve, in December 1909, Chrysler’s first manufacturing job was superintendent of the Pittsburgh Works locomotive plant of the American Locomotive Company. Chrysler was recruited from the railroad industry in January 1912 by an Alco director James Storrow to work for Buick.

Great show.  I have only been alive for 46 years, but i am so impressed with Long Island’s History.  The segment on Jericho Turnpike in Westbury was filmed behind my childhood house.  It got me searching for old maps to show my 11 year old daughter the roots for the races and how the start finish line was on Jericho Turnpike where I grew up.  Keep up the good work.  Most of the Google links I found lead to your site.

Howard, Howard, Howard…what a wonderful Americana show with Evernham…you were great, #8 was great and the history of Vanderbilt Cup Races on Long Island was great. Thanks for the heads up so I could watch it and share the fun you obviously were having.

Mar 05 2014 Mike Cain 10:44 AM

Nice job Howard. I really enjoyed the show. We need to find a way to get the Vanderbilt Cup trophy out of that cabinet and back on display on Long Island.

Great presentation and information on Americarna last night.  This looked (to me) in large part to be most of your research and what you have been presenting.  You and the ALCO presented a historical picture that I do hope will be noticed by others and put Long Island’s prior racing history in a place it should be not forgotten and hidden away.

I sincerely wish great success to you on the above and hope to see you at the ALPCA meet at the Massapequa Elk’s lodge on Saturday April 12th, 2014.  Best Regards Again !!!!!!!

I cannot begin to tell you how much Maddy and I enjoyed watching you on Velocity’s AmeriCarna last night.

You are a natural television personality with an incredible knowledge and passion for Long island’s history with the automobile.

I learned a lot from the program and gained a better understanding of your enthusiasm for your historic vehicles.

Enjoy your continued success.  You should be considered for an EMMY!!!

So many great comments and I don’t even have a word to say about it, darn it, because I didn’t watch it. Now I really want to see it, some way I will. I’m still asking for help, as I said on Sunday or I’ll just have to wait until there’s a rerun online, which may not be for awhile.

@AmeriCarna_tv The best car show on TV. Was The Black Beast 18 or 8?

Mar 06 2014 Howard Kroplick 2:32 PM

Doug, the Black Beast had a different number for each of its 16 races. For the time trial races, it indicated the start position.

I just caught a show called AmeriCarna and Ray Evernham featured the Vanderbilt cup races and you and the Alco-6 Black Beast car. I’ve been a race fan since childhood and been a study of the racing history here on Long Island. The show was very well done and I really enjoyed it. As a mechanical engineer auto racing is the perfect combination of technology and human competition as far as I am concerned. My congrats on a job well done on the show!
