Video: “Chasing a 1908 Simplex Speedcar”
One of my favorite cars on Long Island was the 1908 Simplex Speedcar restored and owned by Walter McCarthy. Several owners and restorations later, the car was sold last summer and was documented on Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars"on the Velocity Channel. Some highlights are below.

As part of the 2005 Vanderbilt Cup Race Centennial Celebration, I developed an exhibit "Car Coming: The Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island" at the Cradle of Aviation in East Garden City
A big attraction of the exhibit was Walter McCarthy's 1908 Simplex Speedcar. Walter did the initial restoration on the speedcar.
His car was the same model that raced in the 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Races, Years ago, Walter sold the car. Subsequently, it was sold several times and was again restored.
The latest sale of the speedcar in August 2012 was documented in this segment of Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars":

It’s a toss up between the 1908 Siimplex Speedcar and your BLack Beast Howard,I’ve seen the Simplex in one of the museums I was at,but never in action,I would have to see it in action to make up my mind,but I think it would be your’s Howard, just because I see you more in action than I’ll ever see the Simplex. It’s all live not in pictures or on videos too. I have to get the full effect,as I do with your’s
