Film “Old 16 Locomobile”
This five-minute film pays tribute to an American racing legend, Old 16, winner of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race.
The film includes photos of the Locomobile taken over the last 100 years including; the historic 1908 race, the racer with Peter and Jerry Helck (owners of the car from the 1940s to 1990s) and past and current exhibits at The Henry Ford Museum, where the racer can be seen today. Many of the photos are courtesy of the Helck Family Collection.
Old 16 was last driven on September 7, 2008 at the 58th Annual Old Car Festival in Dearborn, Michigan.

You made a nice movie of Old 16. Some of these pictures show Old 16 with fenders and some without. I have seen pictures showing the car racing with only a fender brace (no fender) on the right side, drivers side. Do you have any idea why? Has the car ever appeared with only one fender?

Probably due to aerodynamics, most of these racers did not use their fenders during the race. While on its way to various events, Peter and Jerry Helck usually placed the fenders on “Old 16” to protect the racer on the road.
