Hamptons Road Trip: A 1928 Renault Barn Find & Site of the Long Island Automotive Museum Up for Sale
A trip to the Hamptons today resulted in two discoveries: A 1928 Renault Million-Guiet barn find and confirmation that the site for the Long Island Automotive Museum is up for sale.

The closest the Vanderbilt Cup Race courses of Long Island Island ever came to Suffolk County was the Woodbury Turn at the intersection of Woodbury Road and Jericho Turnpike.

Another significant car at the 1988 Vanderbilt Cup Celebration was the 1906/1907 Renault "Vanderbilt Racer" owned by Ledyard Pfund of New Jersey. As noted in a 2007 Businessweek article "The World's First Production Supercar?":

These are the 17 cars that raced in the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race held on October 24, 1908. The race was run over a 23.46 mile course including 8 miles of the Long Island Motor Parkway. The winner needed to complete 11 laps of the course for a total of 258.06 miles. Remember to click on the photos

In addition to donating the trophy for the Vanderbilt Cup Races, William K, Vanderbilt, Jr. was a very active referee for all six races held on Long Island. As shown in this photo of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race, he was always willing to assist when needed.
