2018 Long Island Car Club Council Meeting-Postponed Until Sunday, February 25, 2018

About the Long Island Car Club Council

The car clubs that are members of the Long Island Car Club Council range from brand or even model  specific car or truck fans to more family oriented clubs that share the enjoyment of a wide variety of  classic or special interest vehicles. Most of the clubs have monthly meetings and also hold some annual events such as car shows, swap meets, car cruises, summer barbecue & holiday parties. No matter what type of classic, special interest or performance type of vehicle you are interested in, there is a car club on Long Island (including Suffolk, Nassau, Queens & Brooklyn) that you can join to find others to share & enjoy your hobby with. You can find people that have a car just like yours and get help with locating parts or finding out more information about your car. You can participate in automotive events with other hobbyists, meet people that can help you find a particular car you are looking for or help you sell your current car & get another.

The Long Island Car Club Council was formed around 1990.  It was formed initially for the purpose of avoiding conflicts of car club sponsored shows on the same dates in the same area. As the hobby has grown here on Long Island, the Council has also created more communication between the 60 + car clubs on Long Island and created the opportunity for them to support each other’s events and even work together on some events. The majority of car club sponsored events are geared towards raising funds for one or more charities.

In addition to working out scheduling conflicts of club sponsored events, the council strives to promote the classic car hobby and prevent it from fading away. We want the “younger” generation to enjoy the classic cars of days gone by like we have been doing for many years now. If the younger enthusiasts do not preserve and promote the cars & trucks from the 1970’s & older, then who will when we are gone?

The phrase “Take a kid to a car show” was coined quite a few years ago and carries a lot of weight. Get the kids out of the house, away from the TV, video games, and social media. Expose them to the same cars we enjoyed when we were young and still enjoy today. Many strong friendships have been formed from coming together to enjoy the common interest of classic cars. The hands on knowledge & experience gained from maintaining & repairing an old car is something that anyone can benefit from for the rest of their life.

The Long Island Car Club Council promotes the practice of car club members supporting car club sponsored events that primarily use the funds raised to support either the club itself or a specific charity.

Events that are put on by commercial organizations or “Charities” with questionable fundraising practices do not support the local clubs or the hobby in general and often just use the hobby to raise money for their own purposes. The council asks the promoters of these events to hold them on Saturdays in order to avoid conflicts with car club sponsored events that are generally held on Sundays.
